FreeStyle Optium Test Strips (Abbott)

FreeStyle Optium test strips are Abbott's reference test strips for diabetes self-monitoring. There are two versions:

  • FreeStyle Optium Glucose (box of 50): for quick and accurate capillary blood glucose measurement.
  • FreeStyle Optium β-Ketone (box of 10): to measure ketone bodies (β-hydroxybutyrate) in the blood, a key parameter for detecting ketoacidosis in time.

Why are they so popular?

  • Compatible with the FreeStyle Optium Neo meter and the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader, so no additional device is needed to measure ketones.
  • Very small blood sample and result in seconds: about 5 seconds for glucose and 10 seconds for ketones.
  • No coding required: just insert the strip and you're done.
  • Filling stop that only starts the measurement when the sample is sufficient, and allows adding a second drop within the next 30 seconds if blood is lacking.
  • Individually packaged in aluminum with desiccant, which protects each strip from moisture and extends its shelf life.
