Ivermectin is indicated for the treatment of papulopustular rosacea.
WHAT IS IVERMECTIN?
Ivermectin is a chemical compound derived from avermectin produced by the bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis. It is an antiparasitic compound that has enabled the cure of river blindness or elephantiasis. Ivermectin also has an anti-inflammatory effect.
Why is it effective in Rosacea?
It is thought that a small mite (Demodex folliculorum) that lives in the skin follicles is responsible for the lesions. Ivermectin is an antiparasitic that, when applied, destroys the skin parasite, leading to an improvement in pimples.
How is it applied?
Ivermectin cream 1% is applied once a day to the pimples. Improvement is observed after two weeks of treatment. It may cause skin irritation in 1% of cases. Do not use in children or during pregnancy..
