S-ADENOSYL -METHIONINE
(Dietary Supplement)
PHARMACEUTICAL FORM AND FORMULATION: 384 mg p-toluenesulfonate sulfate of ademetionine equivalent to 200 mg ademetionine ions. Excipient q.s. 1 enteric-coated tablet.
THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS: hepatic insufficiency; steatosis, alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis and cholestasis. Antidepressant.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION ROUTE: oral. Hepatic insufficiency: 400 to 1,600 mg per day, orally, divided into 2 to 3 doses, for 14 to 21 days. Start with 400 mg orally every 12 hours for 10 days, and continue with 200 mg orally every 12 hours until patient rehabilitation.
Depression: 600 to 1,600 mg per day, depending on the severity of the case, divided into 3 doses, every 8 hours, for 21 to 28 days. Oral route every 8 hours for 10 days or 200 mg.
SIDE AND ADVERSE REACTIONS: may cause anxiety or mild insomnia. In patients with manic-depressive illness, it may precipitate the onset of a manic episode.
Active ingredient: ademetionine (S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine), is a physiological molecule present in all tissues and fluids of the body. It acts as a methyl donor and as a precursor of thiols (cysteine, taurine and glutathione). In addition, it is capable of promoting the synthesis of sulfur compounds in detoxification processes.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the product. Do not administer in case of pheochromocytoma, manic states, renal insufficiency, pregnancy or lactation. Do not combine with other antidepressants (SSRIs or MAOIs) or with alcohol.
